The Advantages of Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery has many advantages over open surgery and laparoscopy.

Robotic surgery has many advantages over open surgery and laparoscopy.
Advantages of Robotic Surgery Over Open Surgery
- Thanks to today’s advancing technology, gynaecological diseases are treated more comfortably with robotic surgery.
- Because large incisions are not made on the abdominal wall in robotic surgery, the patient feels less pain after the operation than with open surgery and needs fewer painkillers.
- Because the incisions made in robotic surgery are smaller than 1 cm, patients go through a faster recovery process. In addition, the hospital stay is shorter.
- After being discharged, patients can return to their work and social lives in a shorter time.
- In robotic surgery, thanks to the three-dimensional image, very small blood vessels can be seen more clearly. Consequently, because these vessels are not cut, the amount of bleeding during the operation is reduced to a minimal level.

Advantages of Robotic Surgery Over Laparoscopy
- Robotic surgery also has advantages over laparoscopy, another minimally invasive surgical method.
- Because the robotic surgical method allows the surgeon to work with wider viewing angles, it can reduce the margin of error to zero.
- Laparoscopic instruments can only work in a straight line. However, thanks to the ability of the robot’s arms to rotate 540 degrees, movements can be performed more easily and skilfully with the robot.
- In laparoscopy, the instruments placed inside the abdomen may cause tissue damage such as a lever effect on the abdominal wall during use. The robot’s arms, however, are fixed and do not create any lever effect on the tissue. Thanks to this effect, less pain is observed at the incision sites after robotic surgery.
- In laparoscopy the surgeon’s physiological hand tremor may be transmitted to the instrument and this may affect the surgical field. In robotic surgery, however, this physiological hand tremor is not transmitted to the operation in any way. Because a much higher-quality image is obtained with the robot, movement can be scaled very comfortably. Microanastomosis can be performed very comfortably with the robot.
- Another advantage of robotic surgery is that it allows the surgeon to perform the operation seated in a more ergonomic position rather than standing at the patient’s side. This advantage is very important especially in long operations such as cancer surgery and helps to prevent the surgeon from making mistakes.
